Sutton Valence 2nd XI vs K Sports 2nd XI
Sutton Valence 2nd XI 4 – 1 K Sports 2nd XI
Played at Sutton Valence School
Sutton Valence 2nd XI continued their strong end-of-season form with a convincing 4–1 win over K Sports on a sun-soaked Saturday afternoon. While the scoreline reflects their dominance, the performance wasn’t without its moments of frustration in testing conditions.
The opening stages were sluggish, as Sutton Valence took time to adjust to the heat and tempo. However, the match soon sparked into life. A flowing run from Tom Wilson saw him weave through the K Sports defence before calmly slotting home the opening goal. Sutton Valence began to assert themselves, and not long after, they doubled their lead from a well-executed short corner. Harrison injected cleanly, Trag provided the stop, and Duncan drilled a low shot into the bottom right corner to make it 2–0. The hosts finished the first half in complete control.
The second half, however, started in a similar sluggish fashion, with Sutton Valence allowing K Sports too much space and time on the ball. The visitors capitalised, pulling a goal back following a spell of pressure and a lapse at the back from the home side.
Spurred into action, and perhaps realising they should have completely ignored the tactical advice given at half-time by Lewis - the hosts snapped back into rhythm. A crisp series of passes through midfield pushed Sutton Valence up the pitch. Chris Sheldon then did what few others had managed on the day, striking cleanly from the top of the D. The ball split the keeper’s pads and rolled across the line to restore the two-goal cushion.
The goal of the game came shortly after. Ali worked a clever slip to Sheldon, who returned the favour with a sharp pass into the D. Tom Wilson was on hand to finish the move with a simple tap-in, capping off an excellent team sequence.
It was a full squad performance in tough conditions and a well-earned three points that sets Sutton Valence 2s up nicely heading into the final game of the season safe from the drop and ready to push on.
