Sutton Valence Ladies are Back

Sutton Valence Ladies arrived at Maidstone HC en mass with a sub for almost every position for the team’s 1st friendly match of the season. With the older half the team having not played in at least 15 years it was welcomed by all to have such a wealth of strength and stamina from the youth of the team.

The match started fairly evenly with both sides passing the ball around well in midfield and both defences clearing out any attacks that got in the D. Kiri smashed balls clear whenever the opposition got near her as well as other members of the defence blocking the attack play. Angelique was breaking up play in the midfield with poise and precision but the Maidstone defence also stood firm. With halftime approaching Maidstone started to up the intensity and managed to slip a shot in the corner to go 1-0 at halftime.

Sutton Valence upped the intensity in the second half with Maddie, Isla and Frankie linking up well to threaten the Maidstone goal. The game became more stretched with both sides having more shots. Maidstone struck first with a rebounded shot getting tucked away. Valence then got one back only for it to be ruled out as the umpire had already blown for a valence free hit. Maidstone had more opportunities but keeper Indi stopped everything that came her way. Valence looked dangerous down the right with Sarah having many attack breaks with the ball.

The game ended with Maidstone winning 2-0, but there was plenty of positives for the Valence ladies to reflect on and some more match practice will only see this team go from strength to strength. Well done to all the team for a fantastic performance. We look forward to another game soon
